Guest experiences the Mystery at Mountain Lake On Friday, September 19, 2008, Jay Moore, a frequent guest at Mountain Lake
When he came across a pair of shoes.
The shoes looked like someone had placed them down except that they were full of mud. He emptied the shoes of the mud and closely examined the shoes.
He placed the shoes back in their original hole and turned and found an irregular clump. He picked up the clump and it turned out to be coins. He also found a cigarette tin. Thinking nothing of his finds, he continued to take pictures of the lake bed. The next morning at breakfast, the whole property was fervent with the finding of the remains in the Lake. The Sheriff's department was in the lake bed in a roped off area of caution tape looking for clues. The dining room servers started telling Mr. Moore about the day guests - Chris Dalton and his father Tim of Ripplemead, which is right outside of the neighboring town of Pearisburg, found a pair of shoes, ring and a coin. We did not know of the tooth and bone at this time. Jay looked at his wife and said "Holy Cow", I have pictures of the shoes filled with mud, some coins and a cigarette tin. I have to get these to the General Manager, H. M. "Buzz" Scanland, Jr. The items and were turned over the Sheriff's department immediately. It turns out that the remains belonged to Samual Ira Felder of New York. He was staying at Mountain Lake in the summer of 1921 when he fell overboard on a canoe with his friends. He never resurfaced...until now! Please refer to articles from the local media for further details.
